Despite the hiccups, the Hollywoodbets Durban July has been hailed as another successful event boosting Durban Tourism. This year’s event saw an increase in attendance to 50 000 compared to last year’s 30 000. Attendance aside the event created 1 500 temporary jobs and a R150 million injection into the city’s economy.
Despite the heavy rains and winds, racing and socialising were still on the cards with attendees embodying the 2023 event theme “Out of this World” in glitter and galaxies, mermaid tales, and spacemen.
The atmosphere of the Durban July can be felt for weeks prior to race day.
