Last Friday a series of evictions took place at 272 and 276 Florida Rd (opp Spar) which resulted in piles of belongings being placed on the pavement, and many queries being addressed to the UIP from property owners, businesses and members of the public. The UIP was advised by the property owner that the properties are to undergo redevelopment, which will uplift and better the area, and that the evictions followed correct legal channels and 3 month notice had been given to the occupants staying on the property. Scheduled visits by Metro Police to remind them of the eviction order had also occurred. The belongings that were placed on the pavement by the Sheriff of the court have all been taken away by the municipality, and the UIP has engaged with relevant NGO’s who are ready to offer assistance to the evictees if needed.
